Vietnam requires travelers from most countries in the world to obtain entry visas before visiting the country. To see a list of countries whose citizens need passports, please visit this page about Vietnam visa policy. Visas can be obtained in one of two ways:
If Vietnam has an embassy in your country, you can visit the embassy to obtain a Vietnamese visa in advance of your departure. Visa procedures vary from country to country.
Visitors arriving by plane can apply for a “visa on arrival” via an online travel agent. The travel agent will apply in lieu of the traveler for an Approval Letter from the Vietnam Immigration Office. After a processing period of 3 – 4 days, the travel agent will send the Approval Letter to the traveler via email.
Travelers applying for a Visa on Arrival must bring the Approval Letter along with a passport, two passport-sized photos, and a certain amount of cash for the visa stamping fee. The stamping fee varies depending upon the traveler’s nationality.
